After Hindemith's new string quartet was enthusiastically received at one festival Strauss asked the composer in his broad Bavarian dialect: "Why do you compose atonal music? You have plenty of talent." Hindemith replied in his equally broad Frankfurt dialect: "Herr Professor, you make your music, and I'll make mine." There was a healthy creative tension between Strauss, the traditionalist, and Hindemith the prolific progressive, and both were fixtures at the Donaueschingen modern music festival in the 1920s. The pairing of Strauss and Hindemith on that LP allows me to retell two delicious stories from Geoffrey Skelton's excellent biography of Hindemith (Gollancz ISBN 0575019883 out of print). 3 and a selection of Andrzej Panufnik's music for Unicorn. The sleeve notes remind me that the great conductor Jascha Horenstein also recorded Robert Simpson's Symphony No. The Bob Auger engineered Unicorn LP plays as I write and still sounds magnificent. It was the 1973 Unicorn LP of the symphony shown in my lower photo that made me realise that record covers could be an art form the painting is The Temptation of St Anthony by Max Ernst from 1945, which is also the title of the finale of Hindemith's Symphony. Mathis der Maler (Mathis the Painter) is based on the life and ideals of the early-sixteenth century artist Matthias Grunewald. His 1934 Symphony Mathis der Maler was drawn from material from his banned opera of the same name. Hindemith was, of course, no stranger to the world of artists. As says if you like The Art of Fugue, or Bach's 48 and Shostakovich's 24 Preludes and Fugues, or Kurtág's Játékok, you should try Hindemith's 'tone games' or Ludus Tonalis. Hindemith's twenty-five 'Studies in counterpoint, tonal organisation and piano playing' were composed in 1942 and their true importance is obscured by an unjustified reputation as dry academic studies. But the sleeve above is from Hyperion's recording of Hindemith's Ludus Tonalis played by John McCabe and the illustration is adapted from a special edition of the work illustrated by the composer. Paul Hindemith is not an obvious candidate for my recent thread on musicians as artists. Card games are typically played for playing and making a living than for mere enjoyment functions. Cards are used in a variety of games, including Poker, Rummy, Solitaire, and others. The cards range in value from 2 to 10, with the Ace, King, Queen, and Jack being the most valuable. Each deck has 52 cards separated into four suits: Hearts, Spades, Diamonds, and Clubs. Card Games:Ī card game is any game in which the primary mechanism is playing cards, whether traditional or game-specific. From the conventional, tabletop board video games to the ultra-modern stimulating games, there are numerous types to keep us entertained and lively.īoard games are performed on a flat floor called the "board". Games are classified according to their medium and format. They were created to pass time at home when the weather became bad or a person was confined to their bed by illness. Indoor video games have been first invented to enable humans to amuse themselves within their houses' confines. We can learn how to follow the rules and regulations correctly. We can improve our self-esteem as well as our sense of fair play. They also teach us how to be disciplined and polite. We may enhance our bodies and minds while learning qualities and lessons by playing indoor games. Our brain and body are both exercised when we play games. If there is no play, life becomes monotonous. Play is a part of education and important for our life. For example, Ludo, Carrom, Puzzle, Card games, Chess, Table tennis, and board games. If we talk about Indoor games, these games refer to games that we can play under the house's roof with so many people. Everyone enjoys games because they provide entertainment as well as exercise. Yet, this one warns, be careful not to open your hands too much and spend unnecessarily as money goes much more easily than it comes. So do not be attached to money, because no material things will accompany you beyond your grave. While much can be achieved with money, heaven cannot be purchased. However, this proverb warns that money cannot buy you happiness. It implies that money makes the impossible possible. This proverb recognises the huge potential offered by financial abundance. With money, you can pass a road through the sea Similar to "count the pennies and the pounds take care of themselves", this proverb points at how the little things add up. It offers encouragement about the rewards of waiting for the fruits that come naturally. The virtues of patience are highlighted in this proverb. "Tagħmilx iz-zalza qabel taqbad il-ħut"ĭo not prepare the sauce before catching the fishĪnd this one adds to wait to have something tangible in hand before carrying out desired plans. It warns against the potential risks, especially financial, that come with speculation. "Tixtrix ħut fil-baħar"ĭo not take uncalculated risks, says this proverb. Life is full of chances and you can never be sure of anything. When fulfilment or an agreement is reached, all hardships endured in the process become worthwhile. All beautifully tempting things are inevitably accompanied by an experience that could be considered unpleasant. This proverb points to how 'life is not a bed of roses'. Nobody can assume something will not happen to them or understand how it feels until it happens to them. This proverb highlights the fact that life is full of chances and things could happen to anyone. Therefore, be compassionate and treat everyone equally. The program uses the information about the coverage area to perform AP placements based on RF algorithms. Predictive surveys are performed with a software program. It enables the survey client to associate to an SSID where the client roams between multiple APs. Service Set Identifier (SSID) Method: This is more commonly used for post-deployment scenarios and used to survey multiple APs.Basic Service Set Identifier (BSSID) Method : This method locks a client into an AP’s radio MAC address and does not allow the client to roam. There are two main methods used in active surveys: When a client is associated, it performs all the tasks that a typical 802.11 client performs, which includes rate-shift data rates as the RF condition changes and performs retransmissions.Īctive surveys are commonly used for new WLAN deployments because they provide the most details upon which to base a design. Active SurveyĪctive surveys are performed with the survey client associated to the APs used throughout the survey. PHY rates can only be measured by actual data that is sent to and from an AP. A passive survey only reports signal propagation for beacons measured by particular clients. PHY rates are generally based on RF signal and noise levels. The most significant loss of information with passive surveys is uplink information, Physical (PHY) rate boundaries, and retransmission. These can be accomplished with a passive survey: Such surveys can be helpful when you look for rogue devices or want a good gauge of downlink RF coverage from the infrastructure devices. The survey client never associates to the access point (AP). Passive surveys are performed with a listen-only mode. There are three types of surveys: Passive, Active, and Predictive. It has been discovered that many site surveys are not performed properly or the site survey is omitted altogether. Many issues can arise in a wireless network due to poor planning and coverage. The first step in a wireless LAN (WLAN) deployment is to ensure that desired operation begins with a site survey to assess the Radio Frequency (RF) behavior in a specific environment. This document describes site survey guidelines for WLAN deployment. MagSafe is currently unable to transfer data, complete a device recovery, or take diagnostics, which would seemingly be essential features on a future iPhone with no ports.Īt present, the MagSafe ecosystem is not mature enough, so the iPhone will continue to use the Lightning port in the foreseeable future. In spite of this, Kuo stated that MagSafe wireless charging technology is not yet ready to displace a wired port, having only debuted as recently as October 2020 on the iPhone 12 lineup. If the iPhone abandons Lightning in the future, it may directly adopt the portless design with MagSafe support instead of using a USB-C port. Switching the iPhone to USB-C may, therefore, tip the scales against Lightning across Apple's product lineup, potentially forcing the company to phase out the connector entirely across a large number of products sooner than it wants to.Īmid rumors of a portless iPhone, Kuo clarified that Apple is more likely to switch directly to a portless model rather than first change to USB-C: Transitioning the iPhone to USB-C this year would also leave a significant number of devices such as the entry-level iPad, iPad mini, AirPods, and a plethora of accessories such as the Magic Trackpad and MagSafe Duo charger, stuck with a connector that would no longer be widely used on any flagship products. With the need to connect to external drives being less pressing and some USB-C features such as external display connectivity outright impossible on an iPhone, Apple is understandably less motivated to switch to USB-C on its most profitable product for MFi. MFi also generates a significant amount of income for the company since third-party manufacturers have to pay Apple a considerable commission to make Lightning cables or accessories.Īpple has used the Lightning connector on every iPhone since the iPhone 5 in 2012, but it has transitioned several of its devices to USB-C, including the iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and most recently, the iPad Air. We believe that USB-C is detrimental to the MFi business's profitability, and its waterproof specification is lower than Lightning and MagSafe.Ĭurrently, Apple is able to strictly regulate the quality of Lightning cables and accessories through its Made for iPhone (MFi) program. In a note seen by MacRumors yesterday, Kuo explained that Apple is reluctant to move to USB-C since it is a free, open standard, as well as less waterproof than Lightning. In spite of much of the industry moving toward USB-C, Apple will not be using it to replace the Lightning connector on the iPhone 13, or indeed on any iPhone model for the time being. Apple will retain the Lightning connector on the iPhone for the "foreseeable future," with no intention of switching to USB-C, according to reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
